market update No. 11-2019 Sultanas/Thompsons

2019-02-06
- IN WEEK 5 EXPORT NUMBERS FOR TURKISH SULTANAS STILL ON HIGH LEVELS

In week 5 we also see a sustained demand for Turkish sultanas and Thompsons. Until 2 February 2019 132,307 mt were exported, compared to 135,143 mt in the same period of the previous year. We expect a 2018 harvest of 225,000 mt, about 100,000 mt less than 2017. Adding a carry-over of 30,000mt from last year we can calculate an available amount of 255,000 mt. We have to deduct 50,000 mt for the domestic market. This leaves us with a total volume of 205,000 mt of sultanas and Thompsons. Subtracting the export numbers of 132,307 mt until 2 February 2019 we are left with 72,693 mt! Until the end of August this remaining amount of 72,693 mt needs to cover the demand for 29 weeks. This totals to a weekly average of 2,507 mt for export. However, since September 2018 the weekly export figures are much higher, between 4,500 and 6,000 mt.
